The goddess archetypes are categories I created based on my personal experience, intuition, and knowledge of goddesses and mythic archetypes. (I literally had dreams about them for weeks while I was developing this workshop!)
Before we identify your archetypes, I want to share a little bit about their origin and how and why they work.
The Magic of Living Your Archetypes
As I began the process of re-inventing my life, I noticed that when I prioritized activities that genuinely mattered to me—like traveling, making art, and spending time at the beach—the most beautiful, serendipitous things would happen, almost as if by magic. Each of these experiences not only helped reshape my sense of self but also started a domino effect that led to the next magical experience and the next, opening up more and more possibilities for my life.
Example 1
I noticed this pattern emerge first around travel. Not long after my divorce, I decided to book a trip to France, even though I didn’t have a job yet and I had no idea how I was going to provide for myself. But travel has always been extremely important to me, and I felt a deep pull to return to Paris, my favorite city in the world. So I bought a ticket.
Shortly after I booked the trip, I was shocked when I was called in for an interview at the University of Southern California and subsequently hired as a member of the faculty. (I went to Paris right before the semester started and flew back the day of orientation!)
Not only did my decision to go to Paris happen to coincide with getting a job at USC, but the trip itself changed my life. It was my first time traveling solo, and being alone with myself for 10 days ended up being a deeply spiritual experience. I spent a lot of time reflecting, journaling, and meditating while I wandered around the city, letting my intuition guide me. The more I got in touch with my inner self, the more I noticed interesting synchronicities happening around me. Then, about a week into my trip, the magic really kicked off. A series of chance encounters led to a wave of beautiful new connections and experiences, including a weekend adventure that began on the roof of the Moulin Rouge. As a newly divorced, 31-year-old single mom, it's not an exaggeration to say this trip completely transformed the way I viewed myself and what was possible for my life.
This wasn’t an isolated experience. Over the next several years, I continued to observe this same pattern: Every time I made the decision to prioritize travel and reward myself with something that mattered to me, the universe rewarded me even more! Here are a few more examples.
In 2021, as Covid restrictions were easing up, I decided to take a trip to Croatia (to meet up with my sister, who lives in London and whom I hadn’t seen for two years). I’d recently made the decision to leave academia, and I wasn’t sure what I was going to do next—apart from my own writing—but I knew I needed to honor my authentic passion for travel, especially since I’d been trapped at home for so long. Then, out of the blue, I was connected with a woman who needed help writing a book, and suddenly I had a new job as a writing coach! The trip to Croatia was of course absolutely magical and just what I needed after the stress of the pandemic. Through a serendipitous turn of events, I even made some amazing new friends.
In 2022, I decided to travel to Ibiza. Working as a writing coach, I was never sure when the next paycheck would come in, but I wanted to celebrate myself for all my hard work and for taking the leap to chart a new path. Literally right after I booked the flight, a client reached out and hired me for a writing job! In Ibiza, I met the most incredible people—who are still my friends today—and had some truly magical experiences, like being invited to go backstage at a world famous nightclub and getting to attend some amazing parties.
In 2023, I was able to take a trip to Tulum, Mexico, to stay with my friend Ieva, whom I’d met in Ibiza. Guess who also happened to be in Tulum at the same time? My friend Jenny, whom I’d met in Croatia! After spending an incredible week with both of them in Tulum, I traveled to Medellín, Colombia, to meet up with my friends from L.A., whom I’d met in similarly magical way. I’d always wanted to travel with friends, and now I was having the dreamiest, most serendipitous travel experience possible! Later that same year, I joined Jenny again, this time in Greece (where the photo above was taken). By this point, I’d begun working with goddess energy more intentionally, and I’d really started to notice the results.
In 2024, I took a solo trip to Corsica to reward myself for selling a memoir I’d co-written (with that first client who found me in 2021!). After a rejuvenating week of swimming in the Mediterranean, I flew to London for a couple of nights. When I got to my hotel, I was astonished to discover that my room had been upgraded to a gorgeous junior suite! The magic continued to flow, as it always does when I travel. I connected with Jenny, who also happened to be in London, and we went to a phenomenal music festival. Later, I was treated to a lovely evening on the town, including a visit to the original SoHo House. When I returned home, the idea for Goddess Rising—which had been floating around as an inchoate form in my mind for years—came through fully realized.
In 2025, I traveled back to England, this time with my daughter, to visit my sister. The day I landed, my agent emailed me to tell me that several publishing houses were interested in my book series! I took my first meeting from a gorgeous bed and breakfast in New Forest. A few days later, I was on my way to see Wicked on the West End when I got the call from my agent telling me we had an offer! My lifelong dream had come true in the MOST magical way possible. I still can’t believe it!
For context, I usually only go on one trip a year, so the timing of these events—to my mind—defies simple coincidence. I also want to be clear that I’m not advocating for spending money you don’t have or suggesting that just because you go on vacation, money and opportunities will fall into your lap. This pattern has been consistent for me, I believe, because travel is something that is authentically important to me. And I’ve found that when I give myself permission to pursue the things I genuinely love, even more of them show up in my life.
Example 2
Travel isn’t the only time I’ve observed this pattern.
I’ve always loved the beach, but when I was in L.A. I lived in Highland Park, which is on the east side of the city, so going to the beach represented a significant time commitment. Around 2021, however, I resolved to make the time to go to the beach on a regular basis, since it was something that was genuinely important to me. So, every Sunday I drove out to Santa Monica to swim, sunbathe, read, journal, meditate, and enjoy the beauty and power of the ocean.
Going to the beach every week completely changed my energy and outlook on life. I went from never having a weekend and feeling beyond burned out to having dedicated time every Sunday to rejuvenate my body, mind, and spirit. During my meditations, I always received profound insights, which pointed me toward the next steps I needed to take as I was building my life around the things that reflected my truest version of self.
Before going to the beach, I would stop by my favorite café in Santa Monica and order a delicious smoothie bowl and latte and do some writing, which brought me so much joy. Eventually, my friend Anna started meeting me there to catch up and work on our respective projects. It became a beautiful ritual that was truly the highlight of my week.
I can’t overstate how much honoring my authentic need for writing and spending time near the ocean changed my quality of life, my mood, and even my appearance.
I shared these thoughts in an Instagram post in February of 2023:
“When I left USC in 2021, I had no idea what I was going to do. I just knew that continuing in academia no longer felt aligned. So I took the plunge to leave, and then, almost like magic, each of these amazing writers found their way to me. I couldn’t believe it. I was able to do something I was good at, something I enjoyed, something that allowed me to help other people, and something that gave me plenty of time to do my own writing plus all the things that brought me joy, like travel and going to the beach every Sunday. (I had a very poor work-life balance when I was teaching and always had to work on the weekends.) This is just one of the amazing changes I’ve experienced over the past year and a half, including but not limited to better physical and mental health, increased self-love, incredible friendships, and more magical experiences than I can count. I’m feeling so grateful and in love with life right now, and I just want to remind you that whatever you desire for yourself is 1000% possible.”
Goddess Archetypes
These experiences, among others, prompted me to develop the goddess archetypes. You probably won’t be surprised to learn that my primary archetypes are Goddess of the Sea and Goddess of Travel and Adventure!
As I’ve tested this theory over the past couple of years, I’ve come to the conclusion that the best way to create your dream reality is to live in alignment with your goddess archetypes. When you honor and prioritize what is authentically important to you, your life has no choice but to transform.
In another Instagram post from 2023, I shared some photos from Tulum and wrote: "I always feel like I'm my truest, most sensual, and empowered self when I'm at the beach. I'm not sure what it is, but something about connecting with the ocean and the sun in my bare skin, without worrying about anyone else, is absolutely liberating.” I didn't realize then that it was because I was embodying my goddess archetypes and thus connecting with my authentic goddess energy!
In the caption, I posed these questions: “When do you feel the most free? The most real? What makes your soul sing? How can you give that to yourself today?"
That is the purpose of the goddess archetypes, to help you identify when you feel most like yourself, so that you can bring your life into alignment with the things that bring you true joy and fulfillment.
With that in mind, let’s find your archetypes!
