Would you be able to guess my archetypes from my Instagram photos above?

Social media is a powerful tool for developing our sense of self because it's a direct mirror of our lives, reflecting images of our identities back to us. Psychologist Ruth Guest explains that even temporary content like a disappearing Instagram story contributes to your sense of self because it creates a positive feedback loop for your brain: “Over time, the version you share on your story, starts to feel like you.”

Of course, this can be a double-edged sword if you’re projecting a version of yourself that isn’t authentic—or if you’re comparing yourself to others or worrying about how you’ll be perceived—which is why it’s essential to use this tool intentionally to embody your goddess energy, with full awareness that you’re changing the way you perceive yourself.

Think of Instagram or TikTok (or your platform of choice) as a living vision board, where you can practice embodying your goddess archetypes. For me personally, I found that committing to doing something, visualizing myself doing it, and then seeing myself do it on my Instagram super-speeded my transformation process by reinforcing to my brain that I was in fact living my new identity.

Start by looking at your saved/ pinned posts. What images have you saved? How do these align with your goddess archetypes? What does this tell you about the things your inner goddess is craving? If you don't have anything saved, start saving posts that call to you. When you go back and look at them later, you’ll most likely find that you're already embodying those attributes and living out the reality you envisioned for yourself, often in surprisingly specific ways! (This has happened to me SO many times. See one example here.)

Next, review your bio. What does it currently say? Does it represent the real you? I recommend including your archetype in your bio. You can be subtle about it! Even just adding an emoji that represents your archetype is helpful, because it's a reminder for YOU about the energy you want to embody.

The next step is to start posting photos of yourself embodying your archetype. How would your goddess archetype show up in the world? Would she be confident/ expressive/ intelligent/ an advocate for others? How can you do the same? It will probably feel awkward at first if you're not used to putting yourself out there, but trust me: the more you see yourself embodying the attributes of your goddess archetype, the more your self-perception will change.

My friend Jen is a Goddess of Healing, a Goddess of the Earth, and a Goddess of the Arts. She works as a transformation coach, and she organizes rituals and healing ceremonies in nature that involve art—and animals! (Last year, I was fortunate to be able to attend a powerful ritual she led at the Wild Heart Horse Sanctuary in Park City to welcome in the fall equinox. We got to do the ritual surrounded by majestic horses. It was an incredible experience.) I love the way Jen’s Instagram page so beautifully reflects her archetypes. It’s been a joy to watch her step into her authentic goddess energy as she’s embodied her archetypes online and, in the process, changed her own perception of herself—while simultaneously inspiring and helping the people around her!

A Disclaimer

I recognize that social media has become increasingly toxic over the past few years, especially as we get more and more inundated with AI-generated content. If you choose to use social media, I recommend only following accounts that inspire you (such as other goddesses in your archetype!) and spending most of your time focusing on your own page and what you're creating, rather than browsing the explore page or mindlessly scrolling. You can also make your account private to further protect your peace and energy. If Instagram or TikTok isn't for you, consider using Pinterest or creating a blog. The goal is to have a space where you can watch yourself change and live the new reality you’re creating for yourself.

If you don’t want to post pictures online, no problem! You can achieve the same effect with physical photos. A couple of years ago, I started carrying around a disposable camera and taking photos when I was out doing the things I loved. After I developed the photos, I created collages that I framed and hung in my home as another reminder of my goddess energy and archetypes. This was just as helpful for reinforcing my new sense of self.
